Legit or not? It seems these days that wherever a monetary transaction can take place, scams and fraud comes along for the ride. In the classified ad realm, there seems to be just about as many fraud schemes as there are ads (well, maybe not quite that many).
So how do you know when a potential buyer is legit? Fortunately most activity surrounding the classified ad market is completely legitimate. When you consider the sheer volume of classified ads that may publish at any given point in time, fraudulence is really quite low.
But, it always pays to be informed...
Knowledge is power Because fraud schemes and scams vary widely, we can't seriously touch on all of them here. Factor in the fact that ad fraud techniques can be very different just based on what you are buying or selling. With the vastness of the World Wide Web, we're quite lucky to have many resources and information at our fingertips.
We've added the following links to several web sites to help you learn more about current fraud and scam techniques that are being tried in various classified ad markets.
NOTE: This is list is by no means complete and should only be considered a starting point in your research regarding classified ad fraud, or scams.
If you suspect scams or fraudulent activity surrounding ANY classified ad, whether on iPost360, craigslist, or a print publication, contact your local law enforcement (non-emergency number) or one of the government organizations listed at the bottom of this page.
